Why BBQ Deserves Its Own National Day
Some foods are simply meals, but barbecue has always felt like something more.
Barbecue has a way of slowing people down and bringing them together in the best possible way.
Much of that comes from the process itself. Great barbecue depends on patience long before it ever reaches the table. Smoking meats low and slow allows texture, smoke, bark, and flavor to develop gradually over time instead of being forced.
That slower approach naturally carries into the experience of eating it as well. Barbecue meals tend to feel more communal by nature, with platters being passed around the table, sauces being debated, and conversations continuing well after everyone is already full.
That relaxed pace and sense of togetherness become even more noticeable this time of year, as warmer weather and full patios naturally pull barbecue outside with it.
Barbecue becomes part of outdoor gatherings, backyard parties, lake weekends, and patio dinners because it fits environments where people are meant to stay awhile.
It is one of the few types of food where the experience around the table becomes just as memorable as the food itself.

BBQ: A Tradition Worth Celebrating
At BBQ’d Productions, we believe barbecue deserves its own national day on May 16 because great BBQ has always been about more than just food.
It is the kind of food that slows people down, brings families and friends together, and creates the moments people remember long after the meal itself is over.
National BBQ Day Weekend will be celebrated May 15–17 at BBQ’d Productions locations in Third Lake, Lake Zurich, and Kenosha with:
$10 Smokehouse Burgers
10 wings for $5
20 wings for $10
It is our way of celebrating the kind of food and connection people come back to year after year.
